On Jan. 25, the Las Vegas Raiders hired former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll as their new head coach. But the surprises didn’t stop there. On Feb. 2, they announced the signing of Chip Kelly as their offensive coordinator. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Smith’s fans are going to hear some news about him.
Jeremiah Smith’s Commitment to Ohio State
Kelly’s decision to leave Ohio State after just one season as offensive coordinator came as a shock. As news of Kelly’s move broke, speculation about the potential ripple effects began.
Former NFL star Dez Bryant weighed in on the situation, suggesting that one of Kelly’s standout players at Ohio State, Smith, could end up joining him in Las Vegas in the future. Bryant posted on X:
“Raiders are trying to win now!… don’t worry Jeremiah Smith I can see you in black and silver.”
This comment sent waves through the college football world, especially given Smith’s standout freshman season at Ohio State. His performance in the College Football Playoff, including key games against Tennessee, Oregon, and Notre Dame, helped secure the Buckeyes’ national title.
As a result, many analysts believe Smith has the potential to be a top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
However, Smith is not eligible to enter the draft for at least two more years, meaning any potential reunion with Kelly in Las Vegas would be far off. Even though there is excitement surrounding the possibility, Smith’s commitment to Ohio State appears firm for now.
Despite the growing speculation about his future, Smith has made it clear that he’s focused on finishing his college career at Ohio State. When asked about the possibility of transferring or leaving for the NFL early, Smith was quick to shoot down the rumors.
In response to a comment on social media suggesting that he might be enticed by a large financial offer, Smith replied:
“I’m good I promise you.”
Smith’s impressive freshman season certainly put him on the map as one of the top young wide receivers in college football. His performance in the CFP, particularly in high-pressure games, showcased his talent and potential.
With two more seasons of eligibility remaining, Smith will continue to develop under Ohio State’s coaching staff and further establish himself as one of the premier wide receivers in the nation.
The Raiders’ Rebuild and What Lies Ahead
As for the Raiders, their coaching changes represent a shift in direction. With Carroll and Kelly now leading the way, the Raiders are looking to rebuild and turn their fortunes around after a few years of inconsistent performance.
The hiring of Kelly, in particular, is seen as a positive move, given his success in developing high-powered offenses in both college and the NFL.

However, it will take time for the Raiders to find their footing, and the revamped coaching staff will need to work together to build a competitive team.
For now, both Kelly and Smith remain focused on their respective paths. Smith’s decision to stay at Ohio State for the next two seasons ensures that he will continue to be one of the top talents in college football.
