On Feb. 2, it was reported that Ohio State Buckeyes defensive assistant coach LaAllan Clark could leave the iconic program. Various social media platforms broke the news that the Texas Longhorns are pursuing Clark for their vacant outside linebackers coach position.
LaAllen Clark Set To Leave Ohio State
CBS Sports and 247 Sports insider Matt Zenitz detailed on X how the Longhorns were interested in Clark for a coaching position. He also outlined how Clark had spent the past two seasons with the Buckeyes and does have experience working as a trainer with various NFL players.
The Buckeyes defeated the Longhorns in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs earlier this year by a score of 28-14.
However, it appears as though the Longhorns will be getting a key member of the Buckeyes coaching staff.
“Texas is targeting Ohio State grad assistant LaAllen Clark for an outside linebackers coach position, sources tell @CBSSports/@247Sports. Clark has worked at Ohio State the last two years. In addition to coaching, Clark has also been a private trainer for numerous NFL players,” Zenitz said.
Ohio State Buckeyes Fallout
The news surrounding Clark comes soon after it was announced that offensive coordinator Chip Kelly would be moving on to the NFL next season as the OC of the Las Vegas Raiders.
As a result, head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes executives will need to find replacements for two coaches on the staff who were major contributors to their national championship victory this past year.
The Buckeyes were one of the best teams on both sides of the ball in college football this year. Offensively, they averaged 37.2 points per game, something that ranked 10th best in the nation. On the defensive side of the ball, they ranked No. 1 overall in points against per game, averaging only 12.9 to opponents.

The combination of both coaches leaving their respective posts and various players being drafted by NFL franchises does leave the Buckeyes program at somewhat of a crossroads.
Day will need to quickly find new coaches on both sides of ball, as well as remain active and aggressive in recruiting and the transfer portal, if the Buckeyes want to remain atop the college football landscape next season.
