Minnesota QB Max Brosmer Shines at Shrine Bowl, Highlights ‘All-Practice Team’ Honors

Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Max Brosmer was honored by coaches after an excellent week of practice at the Shrine Bowl.

The East-West Shrine Bowl All-Practice Team rosters were released on Thursday, and one of the recognized players was a Big Ten quarterback who raised his draft stock significantly, showing his full repertoire of NFL-level skills.

Minnesota Golden Gophers QB Max Brosmer Named to Shrine Bowl All-Practice Team

Many players turn heads throughout the weeks of practice for the Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl, but arguably, none have impressed as much as Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Max Brosmer.

Heading into Shrine Bowl practices as a potentially undrafted player, Brosmer has seemingly solidified himself as a sure-fire draft pick, likely between Rounds 4-7 on Day Three.

The coaches voted him on as a member of the West All-Practice Team for his efforts throughout the week.

Brosmer began his collegiate career with the FCS New Hampshire Wildcats, where he played for three seasons beginning in 2019. With one year of eligibility left before the 2024 season, he decided to transfer to Minnesota.

This season, he led the Golden Gophers to an 8-5 record, including a Duke’s Mayo Bowl victory to finish the season. Brosmer completed 66.5% of his passes for 2,828 yards and 18 touchdowns with only six interceptions.

Very technically sound as a passer, Brosmer showcased his quick, snappy release during practices at the Shrine Bowl, raising eyebrows among league and media circles. His ability to spread the ball around isn’t unlike another late-round draft pick: Brock Purdy.

The comparison, with Brosmer a likely Day Three selection and Purdy as the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, isn’t crazy. Each showed their ability as a tremendous quarterback at the college level with questions about how their lack of athletic ability and overall talent level would transition to the league.

Purdy showed that when drafted into the right system, a prospect viewed as “below average” could excel — putting himself in a position to earn an extension soon that could make him the highest-paid quarterback in the league.

Brosmer tore both his ACL and LCL in college, limiting his overall mobility. But still, he showed in Shrine Bowl practices that when he has time, he can dice up a defense with his accuracy.

His decision-making in the pocket stood out as well, evidenced by finding the open man on this touchdown throw.

Nearly a quarter of the NFL is actively looking for a new starter at the quarterback position for next season. As a late-round option, it doesn’t get much better than Brosmer. If he’s put in the right position, he demonstrates his ability to make good decisions and deliver an accurate football — so much so that he was honored for it as the best quarterback on his team throughout the week of practice.
