The 2025 quarterback draft class is subpar, to say the least. However, sitting at the top of the list is the Colorado Buffaloes’ Shedeur Sanders. While the class as a whole lacks depth, Sanders has cemented himself as a potential early draft selection, with some speculating he could even go first overall to the Tennessee Titans.
Where Will Shedeur Sanders Land in the 2025 NFL Draft?
During his time at Colorado, Sanders proved to be a polarizing player. His performances showcased undeniable talent, but they also raised questions about his long-term potential at the professional level. According to NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah on The Pat McAfee Show, that divide in opinion remains prevalent as Sanders transitions to the NFL.
“There’s pretty split opinions around the league; it’s pretty polarizing, actually. To me, when you watch him — the things that are irrefutable — he has got just a pure, pure throwing motion, he is just a natural thrower, it is real pretty the way the ball comes out of his hand.
“He’s extremely accurate. He’s incredibly tough, you know he got the living tar kicked out of him over the last few years there at Colorado. Those things you can’t refute.”
While Sanders’ natural accuracy, toughness, and mechanics are undeniable, some scouts remain skeptical. Jeremiah outlined some of the criticisms that have surrounded the quarterback throughout his college career.
“Now, the people that aren’t as high on Shedeur are gonna say, ‘Well, he doesn’t have elite size, he doesn’t have an elite arm, and he’s not an elite athlete,’” Jeremiah added.
Despite these concerns, Jeremiah believes that Sanders has the potential to thrive in the right NFL system, provided he’s surrounded by the right pieces and given proper protection.
“So that’s where some of the disconnect comes around the league. I think if you get him in the right place, you protect him; he’s a point guard, he can be very, very efficient. So, I think him and Cam Ward, that’s gonna be a fun discussion.
“I have Cam Ward, right now, over him. But I have both those guys as the clear-cut top two guys. And there’s so many quarterback-needy teams that are gonna have opportunities there in the top ten, I think they both go up there in the top 10.”
While opinions remain divided, it’s no secret that Sanders has the tools to succeed at the NFL level. His natural ability as a passer and his mental toughness make him an intriguing prospect.
Whether he becomes a franchise quarterback will ultimately depend on his fit with the right team and his ability to answer the questions surrounding his physical traits.
