The debate rages on: which side of the ball will all-world Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter play in the NFL? He played on both sides at the college level, with a Heisman Trophy to show for it. Former Florida Gators Heisman winner Tim Tebow believes Hunter could continue his two-way play in the NFL.
CFB Legend Tim Tebow Rooting for Travis Hunter To Play on Both Sides of the Ball in NFL
Tebow, a two-time BCS national champion, was the latest to weigh in on the debate of whether Colorado’s cornerback/wide receiver will play offense or defense at the next level.
“I would love to see it,” Tebow said, regarding Hunter playing both sides of the ball in the NFL. “Personally, I’m a fan of him and a fan of his game. I am rooting for him to do both because it would be fun.”
Hunter excelled on both sides at the college level en route to the 2024 Heisman Trophy. On offense, he was second in the nation in receiving touchdowns (15), fourth in receiving yards (1,258), and tied for fourth in catches (96).
He did all of that while playing every meaningful snap for the Buffaloes, picking off four passes, deflecting 11 more, forcing a goal-line fumble, and totaling 35 tackles. The true magnitude of Hunter’s impact was felt across the entire 60-minute game.
But can he do it at the next level?
Tebow continued his praise of the Buffaloes’ do-it-all prospect.
“I think he is so rare, so special. I just don’t think people realize how big, tall and long he is until you see him up close and personal. He’s not the same frame as a lot of corners and DBs. He’s bigger, he’s long. He makes other big guys look really small on the field. He’s so gifted. He’s going to be one of the top picks — if not the top pick. He’ll be a great corner.
“As for what his offensive future might look like, why not look at him at practice, give him some options, and see how he does. If anything, he is an incredible athlete that can do so many special things.”
Hunter was undoubtedly one of the best athletes in college football. His sheer ability to dominate opponents with his instincts and ball skills on both sides of the ball was amazing to watch.
But the NFL is a different animal. Every starting-level player was the best at their college. The hits are harder. Players are faster.
