There has been tremendous debate about who the top two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft are and, out of the two of them, which one is the best. Colorado Buffaloes’ Shedeur Sanders and Miami Hurricanes’ Cam Ward are the consensus top two quarterbacks in the land. However, the jury is still out on which one is better.
On Wednesday, former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert said Ward is the better of the two and should be the top pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Former NFL Quarterback Has Ward Sitting Alone At the Top of the Draft
Benkert knows what it takes to get to the NFL. Based on his playing career, he might not know what it takes to stay there, but he was a professional and knows what it takes to be a pro quarterback.
I just broke down Cam Ward’s tape.
He’s my early #1 overall pick.
He can make every throw on the field with ease, from multiple arm angles, and with multiple trajectories to the same spots.
Not to mention, he’s extremely polished in terms of timing his throws and his accuracy… pic.twitter.com/t4NRpubZJp

“I just broke down Cam Ward’s tape. He’s my early #1 overall pick. He can make every throw on the field with ease, from multiple arm angles, and with multiple trajectories to the same spots,” Benkert said on social media. “Not to mention, he’s extremely polished in terms of timing his throws and his accuracy is out of this world.”

Benkert then gave Ward the ultimate compliment and said he was the best at what he did in the collegiate ranks.
“Truthfully, I haven’t seen many other quarterbacks coming out that seem to be able to teleport the ball to the exact spot they want to go to as consistently as he does,” Benkert said. “Add to this, his poise in the pocket and overall awareness + his stature being able to shrug off tackles… he’s special. Whoever decides to draft him is going to get a franchise turnaround player.”
Ward certainly had an excellent 2024 college football season. In his first season in Miami after transferring from the Washington State Cougars, he finished as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He completed 305 of 454 passing attempts for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns.
The Tennessee Titans have the first pick of the draft, and they will have the opportunity to take Ward. Should they elect not to go with a quarterback, then the Miami (FL) quarterback will fall to the Cleveland Browns or the New York Giants who are both salivating at the opportunity to draft a franchise quarterback.
