Social Media Post Angers Aggie Fans After Revealing Surprising Stat

The Texas A&M football team and its followers are proud of its program. It’s one of the most recognizable brands in college football, boasting the phrase “12th Man” regarding its fan base. Kyle Field, located in College Station, seats over 100,000 and is one of the loudest stadiums in the sport.

Each year, Texas A&M hovers near the top of the recruiting cycle, bringing in numerous four and five-star recruits. In recent history, however, success on the field has been the one thing that hasn’t quite been grasped.

One college football analyst took the time to poke fun at Aggie fans in a social media post.

“Texas football has more 12-win seasons in the last two years than Texas A&M has in their entire collegiate history.”

The post sparked heated debates in the comment section, but amazingly, the stat is true. The Aggies have never had a 12-win season in their 131 seasons of existence. They did win a national championship all the way back in 1939 when they went 11-0 while beating the Tulane Green Wave in the Sugar Bowl.

In the College Football Playoff era, the Aggies have yet to make the tournament — or even be in real consideration. Texas A&M’s last 10-win season was in 2012, led by Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manziel. The 11-win season tied for the most in school history but only ended in a Cotton Bowl victory.

In recent years, Texas A&M has underperformed, constantly failing to meet preseason expectations. It seems like a yearly occurrence for the Aggies to be ranked inside the AP Top 25 prior to the start of the season, only for the program to finish unranked.

Led by freshman quarterback Marcel Reed, the 2024 season looked to be heading in the right direction. Ahead of a matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks on Nov. 2, TAMU ranked No. 10 in the nation with a 7-1 record and just dismantled No. 8 LSU, 38-23, and were riding high on a seven-game win streak.

The ensuing loss to the Gamecocks snowballed into a 1-4 finish to the season, capped off with a 35-31 loss to the USC Trojans in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Once again, a season with high expectations that went awry.

Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns have reached the College Football Playoff in two straight seasons. With a head coach who’s had proven success, Steve Sarkisian, in place and a quarterback of the future, Arch Manning, up next, the future looks bright for Texas.

In the debate between the Aggies and the Longhorns, Texas remains on top and looks poised to continue this trend in the near future.
