Top Indiana and Notre Dame Players Not Playing in the College Football Playoffs

Indiana and Notre Dame will kick off the 12-team College Football Playoffs, but in the era of the transfer portal, will they have any opt-outs of note?

The Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will kick off the first edition of the 12-team College Football Playoffs. With the Irish hosting the Hoosiers midway through December, weeks after the transfer portal opened, will each team be at full strength?

Thanks to the CFN Bowl Game Opt-Out Tracker, we know which players from the Hoosiers won’t be in action in the playoffs.

For Indiana, they’ll be at relatively full strength in this one. However, some names will not be in attendance when the Hoosiers take on the Irish.

While Indiana’s list is six players long, it’s important to note what each of these players meant for the Hoosiers this season. On offense, both E.J. Williams and Donaven McCulley caught just two passes.

Though McCulley caught a touchdown pass, neither of the two transfer portal receivers meant a great deal to the Hoosiers’ passing attack this season.

Similarly, on defense, the Hoosiers should be a complete unit once again.

All three defensive transfers played only spot duty — or not at all — this season. For a defense that led quite a resurgence, the trio of Warnell, Logan, and McDaniel were too far down on the depth chart to make much of an impact.

Unlike Indiana’s, Notre Dame’s list is incredibly short.

In fact, for Notre Dame’s three portal athletes, only Mickey recorded a statistic this season. The Irish should be considered full strength in this one.
