The Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have faced off nearly every season for one of the best-named rivalries in the nation: Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. However, it hasn’t been all that much of a competition, especially in recent seasons.
How Long Has It Been Since Georgia Tech Beat Georgia?
The Bulldogs haven’t lost many games in recent memory, and this rivalry is no different. The last time Georgia Tech defeated Georgia was in 2016, when the Yellow Jackets scored 14 unanswered in the fourth quarter to win 28-27 in Kirby Smart’s debut season at his alma mater.
Tech RB Qua Searcy scored the game-tying touchdown with 30 seconds left, and Harrison Butker’s extra point gave the Jackets their second victory over their arch-rival in three seasons.
However, they haven’t won since, with the Bulldogs rattling off seven straight victories by an average margin of 25 points in the longstanding rivalry.
In fact, that 2016 matchup for the Governer’s Cup was the last time Georgia lost a non-conference regular-season game.
The Bulldogs own the all-time series lead at 71-41-5, with all but three of the Yellow Jackets’ victories coming before 2000.
Yet, Georgia Tech is no stranger to upsetting its blue-blooded rival on the road, with its last four wins (2000, 2008, 2014, and 2016) coming in Athens, Georgia.

That means the Jackets are in the midst of a 20-year home drought against the Dawgs, and they haven’t won in Atlanta since 1999.
Overtime is a rarity in the rivalry, with the 2014 showdown at Sanford Stadium marking the first instance. Georgia Tech capitalized on the opportunity, emerging victorious, 30-24.
However, one of the best meetings in the rivalry was also the most recent. On Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets went eight overtimes to decide a victor, with Georgia coming out on top 44-42 at home.
