Nussmeier was a four-star recruit and a top-20 quarterback across the nation. Hailing from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, Nussmeier earned top-100 status from 247Sports and was a top-15 player in the state as a senior.
His playmaking ability caught the eye of the former LSU staff and ultimately earned the trust of the current LSU staff under head coach Brian Kelly, as noted, Notre Dame did not offer him a scholarship in high school.

Nuissmeier’s play is a unique blend of under-appreciated stature and pure arm talent. While stylistically, he originally drew comparisons to Tommy DeVito coming out of high school, Nussmeier’s play is more comparable to the college version of Brett Favre.
In fact, Favre and Nussmeier each stand 6’2″ and a shade over 200 pounds at the collegiate level. Their arm strength is nearly mirrored and Nussmeier has cut down on the errant decision that may have plagued his early days and inability to crack the starting lineup.
