Garrett Nussmeier 247, High School Recruiting Profile

Nussmeier’s high school profile indicated a player that shouldn’t have had to wait for three seasons to finally get his break. As a consensus four-star recruit, Nussmeier had offers from the majority of Power conference teams in the south and beyond.

Had he entered the transfer portal following any one of his seasons, he would’ve been seen as one of the top players at the position.

Nussmeier was a four-star recruit and a top-20 quarterback across the nation. Hailing from Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, Nussmeier earned top-100 status from 247Sports and was a top-15 player in the state as a senior.

His playmaking ability caught the eye of the former LSU staff and ultimately earned the trust of the current LSU staff under head coach Brian Kelly, as noted, Notre Dame did not offer him a scholarship in high school.

Who Does Nussmeier’s Play Compare To?

Nuissmeier’s play is a unique blend of under-appreciated stature and pure arm talent. While stylistically, he originally drew comparisons to Tommy DeVito coming out of high school, Nussmeier’s play is more comparable to the college version of Brett Favre.

In fact, Favre and Nussmeier each stand 6’2″ and a shade over 200 pounds at the collegiate level. Their arm strength is nearly mirrored and Nussmeier has cut down on the errant decision that may have plagued his early days and inability to crack the starting lineup.

A gunslinger with a new-found ability to pick and choose his shots, Nussmeier’s comp to Favre is an evolving one where he throws like Favre, but also has some Case Keenum in his game with his ability to play within the structure and make progressive reads.

When Did Garrett Nussmeier Take Over for Jayden Daniels?

Famously, Nussmeier didn’t enter the transfer portal following either of his seasons in Baton Rouge. He was quoted as saying he felt it necessary to honor his commitment to LSU and “put his trust in God’s timing” as to the reasons he stayed true to LSU.
