Since transitioning to the FBS level, James Madison has had the better of their encounters with the Chanticleers, and to use an oft-overused term, it hasn’t been close. The last time Coastal Carolina visited Harrisonburg, they suffered a 47-7 shellacking, and even on the road last fall, the Dukes dominated.
Despite the moneyline has tightened as the week has progressed, Bob Chesney’s team is still a clear favorite for this Thursday night clash.

After opening at 55.5 points, the points total has made its way into the 60s. That’s understandable, as we’ll explain later in this Coastal Carolina vs. James Madison prediction, but there’s also caution to be urged there.
Although the Chanticleers are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven Sun Belt games, unless the line moves out further in favor of the Dukes, you might want to proceed carefully in backing the Chanticleers.

As a result, expect fewer quick strikes, especially given that JMU ranks just 51st in success rate despite their flashy highlights.
That said, the Dukes’ knack for moving the chains (46% third-down conversion rate, 36th) and CCU’s struggles to get stops (43.3% opponent third-down conversion rate, 105th) favor the home team.
