One of college football‘s most dangerous pass catchers, Jyaire Shorter, has officially exited the transfer portal. The former North Texas wide receiver has announced his commitment to Auburn, transferring ahead of the 2023 college football season.
Jyaire Shorter Transfers to Auburn
After entering the transfer portal as the spring window was about to slam shut, Shorter attracted early interest from BYU and UCF. The productive pass catcher will take his talents to Auburn, transferring ahead of the 2023 college football season. A graduate transfer, he’ll have just one season of eligibility for the Tigers.
The 6’2″, 218-pound pass catcher joins Auburn coming off the back of the most productive season of his college career. Last fall for the Mean Green, Shorter put up some ludicrous numbers despite North Texas having a trio of running backs to carry the load.
Shorter took 23 receptions for 628 yards in 2022, averaging a mind-blowing 27.3 yards per catch. Meanwhile, he added 11 touchdowns to his college football résumé. That number alone is impressive but when you consider that 47% of his receptions turned into touchdowns, impressive doesn’t even begin to come close.

His 2022 campaign showcased the potential of the former North Texas wide receiver, who had previously experienced a rocky college football career. While he was productive as a redshirt freshman in 2019, Shorter only played in five games between 2020 and 2021 due to injuries, which had threatened to derail the career of the former three-star prospect out of Ellison High School.
Named the third-best receiver in the AAC by College Football Network ahead of the 2023 college football season, Shorter will now get to showcase his extraordinary talents in front of a new fanbase. In those rankings, CFN’s Cam Mellor detailed what Auburn fans can be excited about on college football Saturdays this fall.
“Shorter is the definition of a talented receiver at the catch point, contorting his body and timing his angles to near perfection every time. He also has a full bag of skills along his routes, release, and footwork. Shorter is one of the best college football has to offer.”
