    Head Coach, Jeff Traylor

Ascending through the high school coaching ranks to now commanding a successful FBS program, Traylor overcame a cavalcade of obstacles before reaching the near pinnacle of his profession.

After playing at SFA as a walk-on tight end (1987-90), Traylor began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Big Sandy High School (1990-93) before moving on as an assistant at Jacksonville High School (1994-2000).

He got his first head coaching job at his alma mater, Gilmer High School. From 2001 to 2014, Traylor led Gilmer to a 175-26 record (.871) and three state titles. He was named Texas High School Coach of the Year for Class 4A four times.

With his eye on a collegiate job, Traylor left to be the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Texas (2015-16), the running backs coach at SMU (2017), and the running backs coach at Arkansas (2018-19) before being hired as head coach of UTSA.

Since 2020, Traylor has led the Roadrunners on the program’s best run in its short history, a 39-14 record over the last four seasons with consecutive CUSA titles in 2021 and 2022. He’s led UTSA to four straight bowl games, securing the school’s first bowl win in the Frisco Bowl last year.

    Defensive Coordinator/Safeties Coach, Jess Loepp

Jess Loepp was a senior analyst at Arkansas before following Traylor to UTSA, at first as safeties coach (2020), then co-DC (2021), and now full-time DC.

It was Loepp’s first DC job after coaching the safeties at Tulsa (2010-14), SMU (2015-17), and Prosper High School (2018).

    Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach, Justin Burke

Another coordinator who worked his way up the UTSA hierarchy, Justin Burke started as an offensive analyst in 2020 and 2021 before moving to special teams coordinator and tight ends coach in 2022.

Burke was named OC in 2023 while also coaching the tight ends that year before switching to quarterbacks coach for 2024.

Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach, Kurt Taylor

Kurt Taylor started in the high school ranks before joining Traylor’s staff at UTSA in 2020. He started as a tight ends coach before moving to the offensive line. He was a long-time offensive line coach at Gilmer High School (2000-16) before becoming the head coach at Tyler Lee High School (2017-19).

Pass Game Coordinator/Receivers Coach, Joe Price III

Joe Price III was a high school assistant coach at Galena Park (2009-13) and North Shore (2014-18) before taking on his first college job as director of high school relations at Illinois for the 2019 season.

Price joined Traylor’s staff the following year as director of player personnel (2020-21) before being promoted to receivers coach.

    Special Teams Coordinator, Zach Brown

After serving as a GA (2017) and defensive director of player personnel (2018-19) at Ole Miss, Zach Brown joined Traylor’s staff at UTSA as a defensive analyst and interim linebackers coach in 2020.

Assistant Head Coach/Cornerbacks Coach, Nick Graham

After playing at Tulsa (2003-06), followed by a brief career in the pro ranks, Nick Graham began his coaching career as a student assistant at Tulsa in 2013. He was promoted to defensive analyst the following year before coaching the safeties at McNeese State (2019). He joined UTSA as corners coach in 2020.

    Defensive Line Coach, Siddiq Haynes

After spending the first seven years of his coaching career at Sam Houston State as a GA (2014-16) and then defensive line coach (2017-20), Siddiq Haynes joined the Roadrunners’ staff as an analyst in 2021. He was moved up to defensive line coach the following year.

    Running Backs Coach, Julian Griffin

Julian Griffin has been the Roadrunners’ running backs coach since the beginning of Traylor’s tenure in 2020. Before that, he served as offensive quality control at SMU (2017) and at Arkansas (2018-19).

    Linebackers Coach, Galen Scott

With over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, Galen Scott was the linebackers coach at Illinois State, Tulsa, Memphis, Virginia Tech, North Texas, and Louisiana from 2002 to 2023. He joined UTSA’s staff this offseason from Louisiana.
