Four teams accrued nine wins last season, but the 2024 Mountain West season predictions have zero teams with a win total over 8.5. In fact, only three programs are expected to post a winning record this year — but will that come true?
Mountain West Season Predictions for 2024
It’s never too early to preview the season ahead, and FanDuel has posted the current odds for projected regular-season wins from each Mountain West team. Boise State, Fresno State, and UNLV lead the way, but there are a few other programs that could make some noise in 2024.
Mountain West Season Predictions – Regular-Season Win Totals
- Boise State: 8.5
- Fresno State: 7.5
- UNLV: 7.5
- Colorado State: 6.5
- Wyoming: 6.5
- San Jose State: 5.5
- Air Force: 5.5
- Utah State: 5.5
- Hawaii: 4.5
- San Diego State: 4.5
- Nevada: 2.5
- New Mexico: 1.5
The Broncos are the favorites in the conference, and rightfully so. The roster is full of playmakers on both sides of the ball — to name a few: QB Malachi Nelson, RB Ashton Jeanty, WRs Cam Camper, Chris Marshall, and Latrell Caples, DE Ahmad Hassanein, LB Andrew Simpson, and CB A’Marion McCoy.
However, Fresno State and UNLV aren’t far behind. The Bulldogs have won 9+ games in three straight seasons and are good for a Power Five (now Four) upset nearly every year. And with Mikey Keene under center, they’ll continue to put up points in 2024.
Speaking of putting up points, Barry Odom and Brennan Marion’s Rebels can do just that in a myriad of ways. Losing Jayden Maiava to USC stings, but Holy Cross transfer Matthew Sluka can sling it. Having Ricky White and Jacob De Jesus to throw to certainly makes his job easier, as does handing the rock to Jai’Den Thomas.

Air Force and Hawaii also have two of the 10 easiest schedules in the nation this season, aiding their prospects. That’s particularly notable for the Rainbow Warriors, who return Brayden Schrager at QB and his two prolific pass catchers, Steven McBride and Pofele Ashlock.
Wyoming has the defense and rushing attack to near their 9-4 record from 2023, but they’ll miss the mark if they don’t receive adequate play at QB.
Outside of the teams mentioned, it could be tough sledding for the Mountain West, with two teams at 2.5 wins or fewer (Nevada and New Mexico) and four teams with major question marks at football’s most important position (Utah State, San Jose State, Air Force, and San Diego State).
