Wyoming opens the season against a team it has played 15 times, Arizona State, but not since 1977 when the Sun Devils demolished the Cowboys, 45-0. They’ll see a more recent familiar face the following week against Idaho, a team Wyoming is 7-1 against, including a 21-16 win in 2019.
A blast from the Cowboys’ WAC past comes next on the Wyoming 2024 football schedule as the Cowboys square off against BYU for the 77th meeting between the two programs. The Cougars have won the last nine games, including in 2022. Both teams were in the WAC from 1962-1998. Wyoming then rounds out non-conference play with a first-ever meeting against North Texas.
The Cowboys open Mountain West play against the Air Force Falcons, a team they beat last year. The next four, San Diego State Aztecs, San Jose State Spartans, Utah State Aggies, and New Mexico Lobos, didn’t play against Wyoming last season. The Cowboys did play Colorado State and Boise State last year, beating the Rams but losing heavily to the Broncos.

The final opponent on the Wyoming 2024 football schedule, the Washington State Cougars, won’t count towards its conference record after an agreement between the Mountain West and the Pac-12.
After 10 teams left the Pac-12 for other conferences, Washington State and Oregon State are the only remaining members. Bylaws stipulate that a conference must have eight teams but have a two-year grace period to get there once falling short. The MWC and Pac-12 have a scheduling agreement in place until the situation resolves itself fully.
