In his three years with the Texas Longhorns, Xavier Worthy has been one of college football’s most productive wide receivers. His college stats showcase his ability to consistently produce at the highest level, utilizing his natural speed and elusive traits to create separation and explode.
Xavier Worthy’s Record-Setting Freshman Year
From a four-star recruit at Central East High School in Fresno, CA., Worthy’s journey to college football stardom was not without its twists. He was initially committed to Michigan, choosing the program over blue-bloods, including Alabama, Georgia, and USC.
Due to the COVID pandemic, he had to complete recruiting interviews by video and reportedly fell in love with offensive coordinator Josh Gattis’ plan for his usage.
However, academic restrictions prevented him from joining the team in January 2021, forcing him to miss spring practice before joining in June.
His mother reported to The Athletic that they filed all the correct paperwork and Worthy should have been able to enroll early, saying, “The trust wasn’t there. For us, trust is so big in everything. We just never felt like we were getting the truth about what happened.”
Also concerned with the quarterback situation, Worthy requested a release from his National Letter of Intent in April and linked up with Steve Sarkisian with Texas, who recruited him at Alabama.
It was a decision that would likely change his career as Worthy headed to Austin, ready to burst onto the college football scene.
Worthy’s college football career started with a bang. He made an immediate impact as a freshman in Austin. He started all 12 games of his first college football campaign in 2021, setting several rookie records.
On the field, Xavier Worthy was a force to be reckoned with. He snagged a reception for over 30 yards on his debut against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, continuing to impress with his first touchdown coming among six receptions for 71 yards against the Rice Owls.

By the end of his freshman year, Worthy had amassed an impressive 981 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the sport’s most dynamic playmakers.
The campaign broke multiple records in Austin, including freshman records for receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Worthy won Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year alongside Freshman All-American and first-team All-Big 12 honors.

Worthy Continues To Impress as a Sophomore
Expectations were high for Worthy’s sophomore season, and while he didn’t hit the astronomical statistical benchmarks he did as a freshman, he was equally as explosive, elusive, and dynamic.
Worthy racked up 60 receptions for 760 yards in his second year in Austin as he again started every game of his sophomore year.
The Longhorns’ wide receiver, who also served as the team’s primary punt returner, was named a second-team All-Big 12 selection.

Worthy Ends His Career With an Outstanding Junior Year
Entering the year as one of the top wideouts in college football, Worthy was on the radar of NFL scouts as a potential first-round selection. The Texas wide receiver recorded the most yards of his career as a junior and proved how consistent he can be when given space and separation to utilize.
Worthy hauled in 75 receptions and 1,014 yards, returned kicks for 371 yards and a score, and was recognized with first-team All-Big 12 honors. His 75 receptions are the seventh most in program history, and he also became only the 11th receiver with over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.

It rounded off a record-setting career with the Longhorns, and Worthy leaves Austin ranked fourth in all-time career receiving yards, sixth in receptions, and eighth in punt return yardage. His 39 consecutive starts with at least one reception is the third longest in program history.
