Joe Alt established himself as one of the nation’s best offensive linemen in his three years with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and is now looking to become a starting tackle in the NFL.
He is receiving glowing reviews from NFL scouts, and one NFL Draft analyst is even comparing him to one of the top starting tackles currently in the NFL.
Daniel Jeremiah Compares Joe Alt to NFL Superstar
The Fighting Irish tackle is projected to be the next Notre Dame product to become a top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, following in the footsteps of Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey in 2018.
Alt could be drafted even higher than that, and with an established and glowing college career, he is receiving high grades from many NFL Draft scouts and analysts.
At the 2024 NFL Combine, a prominent NFL Draft Analyst was the latest to heap praise — and a high-end comp — on the former Golden Domer.
NFL Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah had a strong comparison for Alt, likening him to current Las Vegas Raiders left tackle Kolton Miller. At just 21, the Notre Dame product is one of the youngest players in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the comparison is high praise for the elite college player.
Alt measured in at a breathtaking 6’8 1/2″, 321 pounds, 34 1/4″ arms, with a wingspan measuring 82 3/4″ at the NFL Combine.
Meanwhile, at the 2018 NFL Combine, Miller measured 6’8 1/2″, 309 pounds, 34 1/4″ arms, and an 82 1/2″ wingspan. Miller was drafted No. 15 overall out of UCLA in 2018 and has locked down the left tackle spot with the Raiders.
Alt could have an even higher projection and is considered a probable top-10 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Such comparison is hardly surprising, given Alt’s measurements, scouting report, and college career. The Notre Dame tackle was a four-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting class and the no. 21 ranked offensive tackle nationally.
Coming out of Totino-Grace High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alt was a multisport athlete playing basketball and football, and that natural athleticism has driven his growth as an offensive lineman.
That growth has developed quickly, as Alt is still relatively new to the offensive tackle position. Not that you would know it. In his junior year of high school, Alt was a tight end who caught 17 passes for 143 yards while also playing defensive end.
However, offensive line play is in his blood. His father, John, played for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 1980s and was a first-round pick in the 1984 NFL Draft. John went on to be inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame, and Joe is hoping to follow his legacy.
If Alt’s play in South Bend is anything to go by, he is well on his way. As a freshman in 2021, he played in all 13 games as both an offensive lineman and a tight end and started the final eight games.
After emerging as a starter in the back end of his freshman season, Alt started all 13 games in 2022, showing spectacular technical refinement and brute strength as a sophomore. Being named a First-Team All-American by several outlets, Alt quickly established himself as one of the best tackles in the country.
Alt’s emergence as an elite run blocker and powerful pass protector with the Fighting Irish saw him named a team captain ahead of the 2023 season. He anchored a Notre Dame offensive line that ranked second in school history in points per game, scoring an average of 39.1 points.
