Creating a Culture: How Tulane Prepared Michael Pratt for the NFL

Michael Pratt has become the latest player to credit Willie Fritz and the culture at Tulane for their development into NFL Draft prospects.

Under head Coach Willie Fritz and quarterback Michael Pratt, the Tulane Green Wave have turned their fortunes around.

After a stellar college career, Pratt is now ready to transition to the NFL, but he won’t forget his roots. Speaking to the media, the Green Wave QB has all the praise in the world for coach Fritz and the Tulane program they built together.

How Has Tulane Made Michael Pratt a Better Pro Prospect?

Fritz has now departed the New Orleans-based program, taking up a job with the Houston Cougars in the Big 12. However, Pratt and others credit him for their success.

In four seasons with Tulane, Pratt completed 730 of his 1204 passes for 9,611 yards, 90 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions.

While he isn’t considered among the elite QB talent available in the 2024 NFL Draft, he is one of several players that NFL teams will be considering in the middle rounds, and the Green Wave signal-caller has already met with several teams at the NFL Combine and the 2024 Senior Bowl earlier in the year.

Pratt may not have the strongest arm or be the most athletic prospect to have declared for the NFL Draft, but he believes the culture at Tulane has set him up for success.

Speaking in Indianapolis at the 2024 NFL Combine, Pratt discussed how Tulane has molded him into the player he is today and what makes him stand out as a prospect.

“You know, I think one of the biggest things is, you know, who you are as a person. Coach Fritz did an awesome job, bringing a great job to that program and really creating a culture,” Pratt told the media.

Pratt isn’t the only player to have heaped praise on Fritz at the NFL Combine, with WR Jha’Quan Jackson also sharing how important the culture that the head coach built in New Orleans was.

In his interview, Pratt put real emphasis on the importance of mentality, character, and leadership in the NFL.

“And, you know, everybody at this level is really talented, but it’s kind of the intangibles that keep you around and, you know, put you to the next level.”

Meanwhile, Pratt believes the culture he has been surrounded by in New Orleans has given him a professional mindset. He knows that attitude, work ethic, and intelligence matter in the NFL, whether you are a starting QB or a possible third-string option.

Pratt went on to tell the media why those things matter and what he is still working on. “I think just kind of polishing those things and establishing who I am as a person and how I can help my teammates, no matter what my role is.”

“How I can elevate the people around me and being an asset to the locker room are things that I think are sometimes overlooked at this level because everybody is really talented.”
