The hits keep on coming for the Alabama Crimson Tide football program as players continue to leave after coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. Quarterback Julian Sayin is the latest to announce his intention to enter the transfer portal according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Julian Sayin Leaving Alabama for Transfer Portal
Sayin was a five-star athlete in high school and was highly regarded as one of the top two quarterbacks in the 2024 class. He had multiple offers from top schools including Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas, and Florida. Alabama would ultimately be his destination.
Sayin finished his high school career throwing for 7,970 yards and 86 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions.
He went to Alabama as an early enrollee as he practiced with the team as they prepared for their Rose Bowl game against the Michigan Wolverines. Sayin was also starting to attend classes at Alabama this month.
Sources tell ESPN the reason Sayin is departing from the school is he wanted to play for Saban. The news of Saban transferring now has Sayin looking elsewhere to play football.
To this point, 27 total players on the Crimson Tide have entered the transfer portal, including Sayin. Big names that have already left the team since the news of Saban’s retirement include safety Caleb Downs and wide receiver Isaiah Bond.
Meanwhile, Alabama was able to add a quarterback to the roster through the transfer portal as they brought in Washington QB Austin Mack.

Sayin had a ton of options coming out of high school and will once again be able to pick from the five other schools who were going after him. He does have a one-time transfer exemption that he will use for this situation. This would have him enrolling in classes and at spring practice this semester.
