Ready to take a risk on Rutgers? Is Miami the money-maker in this Thursday afternoon clash? If you’re going to take advantage of the Pinstripe Bowl odds, consider some of the following factors before you part with your hard-earned cash.

It’s been 20 years since Miami and Rutgers last met, which if you’re a Scarlet Knights fan is probably for the best given that for 11 straight years, the Hurricanes blew by Rutgers to bring an 11-0 head-to-head record into the Pinstripe Bowl.

Times have changed, and Greg Schiano has the Scarlet Knights trending in the right direction, even earning favorite status for this game.

With multiple Miami opt-outs and injuries, you can understand why the oddsmakers have some faith in Rutgers. However, with the players that will take to the field in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon, the Hurricanes should be able to take a win back to a warmer climate.

The Scarlet Knights have done a good job covering when favored this season, going 5-1 in 2023. However, they’ve not won in the last four games and Miami is 3-1 covering as an underdog this year.

The Hurricanes have been able to put up points on good defenses, while Rutgers has averaged 22.6 points per game this year, making the over a potential play in the Pinstripe Bowl odds.

Top DFS Picks and Fantasy Plays

Rutgers Depth Chart | Miami (FL) Depth Chart

There are four college football games on Thursday to compile your DFS team from. If you’re new to DFS, Fanduel Superflex contests require you to select a quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, and a “Superflex” that can be any of the above or a tight end.

Starting your Pinstripe Bowl picks with where to avoid, the quarterback situation inspires zero confidence from a DFS and fantasy perspective. The Hurricanes will roll with sophomore Jacurri Brown who hasn’t played a snap this season and made just 45 pass attempts as a freshman in 2022. Gavin Wimsatt adds alluring rushing value but can be turnover-prone.

As a result, you’re likely to see the ball on the ground a lot, especially with rain in the forecast. Rutgers RB Kyle Monangai has been the shining light of their offense this season, rushing for 1,099 yards and seven touchdowns this year — he leads all available Pinstripe Bowl participants with 158 fantasy points.

Miami boasts a pair of WRs who have put up over 100 fantasy points, but Henry Parrish Jr. and Mark Fletcher Jr. are the players to watch here. Parrish has had somewhat of a disappointing season relative to his talent but heads into the Pinstripe Bowl having rushed for over 100 yards with two touchdowns in the season finale against Boston College.

    Prediction for the Pinstripe Bowl

Okay, so we’ve furnished you with the Pinstripe Bowl odds and some DFS picks. Now, it’s time to close this thing out with our prediction. Will Rutgers round out their best season since 2014 with a win? Or can Miami add to their already overwhelming head-to-head advantage when the two teams come together in Yankee Stadium on Thursday afternoon?

Rutgers rattled off three straight wins to open the season while adding Big Ten scalps of Michigan State and Indiana to book their place in bowl season before October was out.

It’s a remarkable achievement for Schiano’s team, built on an impressive defense that allowed over 30 points to just three teams this season — against Ohio State, Maryland, and playoff-bound Michigan.

A stellar secondary led by Max Melton and Robert Longerbeeam, and multiple players with backfield-disruption capability, has helped limit teams to an average of 21.0 points.

Meanwhile, running back Monangai is a dangerous rusher who has averaged over five yards per carry at the forefront of a Rutgers offense that can compete despite not consistently putting up points.

The issue for Rutgers is that most of a defense that has restricted teams to 97.08 yards per game and 3.17 yards per carry this year will play for the Hurricanes in the Pinstripe Bowl, potentially taking away their only offensive threat. While the QB issue may inhibit Miami’s offense, they at least have their two most productive WRs and can lean on RBs Parrish and Fletcher.

Prediction: Miami (FL) 27, Rutgers 21
