Florida State Seminoles quarterback Tate Rodemaker has entered the transfer portal. With multiple years of eligibility remaining and several flashes over the first few years of his time with the Seminoles, Rodemaker should have plenty of suitors.
These five schools could form Tate Rodemaker’s landing spots, and a few might be surprising.
Tate Rodemaker Landing Spots: Five Transfer Destinations
Rodemaker played admirably after starter Jordan Travis went down with an injury. However, the Seminoles have aggressively shopped for high-level quarterbacks in the transfer portal, and Rodemaker is likely seeking a school where he can start.

Rodemaker was a three-star recruit out of high school but put up great numbers and had plenty of suitors out of high school. He has great size and throws a solid ball. In limited playing time, he’s performed well.
Arizona State Sun Devils
This may not fit the criteria of an “obvious starting spot” for Rodemaker, but he has a long-standing relationship with head coach Kenny Dillingham. Dillingham was Rodemaker’s primary recruiter out of high school and coached him for two years as Florida State’s offensive coordinator.
Arizona State has a lot of competition within its quarterback room, but no one clear-cut starter. Rodemaker would quickly pick up offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo’s system and has the talent to beat out the other guys in the room potentially, should he decide to transfer to Tempe.
Georgia Southern Golden Eagles
Statesboro to Valdosta, where Rodemaker played football in high school, is a three-hour drive. That proximity is helpful, considering Rodemaker initially chose Florida State partially due to its proximity to home.
Clay Helton is known for throwing the ball around, and Rodemaker’s skillset aligns well with Helton’s system. It doesn’t hurt that offensive coordinator Bryan Ellis offered Rodemaker out of high school while coaching at Western Kentucky.
San Diego State Aztecs
This is less likely than a few of the other spots on this list, but is still worth listing. New head coach Sean Lewis has already taken a quarterback transfer from Florida State in this cycle in AJ Duffy.
Given the option, though, the Aztecs would probably like some more competition and experience in the quarterback room to pair with Duffy, who has never attempted a pass at the collegiate level. Rodemaker isn’t as mobile as many of Lewis’ past quarterbacks but provides the quick decision-making and short-to-medium accuracy needed to run his system.
Auburn Tigers
The Tigers have been oddly quiet in the transfer portal, especially at the quarterback position. Starter Payton Thorne has another year of eligibility, but there are still rumblings that Hugh Freeze may want to take a swing at another quarterback.
With Rodemaker not likely to attract quite as much attention as some of the highest-level quarterback transfers, he could be seen as a less risky investment from an NIL and recruitment perspective. If there’s interest, the fit could make sense.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
This spot isn’t as likely for a few reasons, but the Cornhuskers need a quarterback, and Matt Rhule’s Baylor Bears were one of Rodemaker’s finalists in 2019.
While the move would make sense for both parties, there are some hurdles here. One of those is uncertainty at the offensive coordinator position. Rodemaker worked hard to recruit high school teammate Jaheim Bell to Tallahassee, and the two are close.
Bell left South Carolina largely because of a well-documented and rather ugly public spat with Marcus Satterfield, who was South Carolina’s offensive coordinator at the time.
Now, at Nebraska, Satterfield runs a pro system that would fit Rodemaker’s skill set. However, nothing about this would work if Rodemaker, like Bell, dislikes Satterfield.
