Cayden Green Transfer Portal Landing Spots: Oregon Leads the Way

Cayden Green is a big name to know in the transfer portal, but which schools could actually land the former Oklahoma guard's services?

The transfer portal is a vital place for any college football team across the country to pluck top-tier talent available at a position of need. For schools needing an influx of talent on the interior of their offensive line, you better believe that former Oklahoma G Cayden Green is on their short list of players to target.

But which schools make sense for Green to land in 2024 and beyond?

Cayden Green Transfer Portal Landing Spots

To understand where Green could land, you first must understand just who Green is. A true freshman in 2023, Green dominated in his first year of action with the Sooners.

He first logged snaps in Week 1 in mop-up duty against Arkansas State, earning reps at left tackle. After Week 1, however, Green kicked inside and earned his first start against UCF in Week 8.

Green played in 11 games this past season, earning five starts, including each of the last four games of the year. He was a stalwart in pass protection, showcasing strength, speed, and a solid foundation in his game.

On the ground, Green also showcased an ability to get out in front of run plays and lay out defenders on the move for his backs. At 6’5″ and 311 pounds, his ability to move in space and keep a sound foundation is a rare skill set and makes him a coveted player in the portal.

It should be no surprise to see these schools after him.

    Oregon Ducks

The Ducks moved quickly to bring Green in on a visit, welcoming him onto campus on December 15, per his social media. A program on the rise and on the move, the Ducks hope to compete in the Big Ten next fall.

It’s clear the Oregon program understands they’ll have to continue to win in the trenches and have to replace some projected NFL Draft picks on the interior. With how they run the ball and the players returning, Oregon’s rightfully on the top of Green’s list if he’s already on a visit.

With Steven Jones’ eligibility exhausted following this season, there’s a large hole at guard for Oregon. Green could slide right in next to Marcus Harper as a more than fitting replacement.

    Missouri Tigers

Green has a visit lined up with the Missouri Tigers following his trip to Eugene, Oregon. Missouri’s offense exploded into a national powerhouse this past season, using the transfer portal to beef up their talent up front as they continue to develop stalwart blockers on the offensive line.

Like Oregon, they’ve got a big hole to fill as Xavier Delgado has exhausted his eligibility and likely heads to the NFL in April. Getting Green to slide in next to Cam’Ron Johnson (if he doesn’t enter the Draft as well) and Connor Tollison on the interior would be a huge coup for their prospects in the SEC next fall.

    Florida State Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles aren’t currently on the docket for Green but don’t be surprised if the portal king himself — FSU head coach Mike Norvell — pulls rabbit out of his hat and lures Green to Tallahassee. Their interior offensive linemen are in question and without a handful of players entering the 2024 season.

Each of last season’s starters is a former transfer, and they’re all out of eligibility at guard. D’Mitri Emmanuel, a Charlotte transfer in 2022 played both right and left guard last season while Casey Roddick, a Colorado transfer, and Keiondre Jones, an Auburn transfer, started at left and right guard, respectively.

Coming from different schools and immediately seeing reps, the FSU line was awarded the ACC Offensive Line of the Year from us at CFN, and Green could absolutely be pulled a bit south to the state of Florida if Norvell can get him on campus. They’d be wise to.
