North Texas Mean Green quarterback Chandler Rogers announced that he would be hitting the transfer portal after one year with the program.
Rogers joined the program after spending the previous two seasons with Louisiana-Monroe. He is about to enter the fifth school of his career as he enters his senior season in college.
Landing Spots for Chandler Rogers
Rogers put up career-high numbers for North Texas after taking over as the starter in their third game of the season. In ten starts, Rogers threw for 3,382 yards with 29 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added 180 yards on the ground with four scores. Rogers finished with a 5-5 record as a starter as the Mean Green finished 5-7 on the season.

Now in the open market, Rogers could be an intriguing choice to add as quarterback, with him being efficient with the football and running when needed. Let’s look deeper into the five schools he could transfer to and play for in 2024.
Houston Cougars
Once upon a time, Rogers visited Houston, which he considered a school he could attend. He would end up committing and playing for Southern Miss.
In their first year in the Big 12, Houston finished with a 4-8 overall record and relived Dana Holgorsen as head coach. The Cougars were in the bottom three in total offense and only averaged 241.5 passing yards per game.
Willie Fritz is now taking over as Houston’s head coach and will be looking for new players to bring in. Rogers proved to be one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the country. Look for Houston to add a quarterback to their roster and most likely look in the transfer portal to get one.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Illinois is another school that at one point, Rogers had visited before picking Southern Miss. The school could use some more consistency at the quarterback position. The two quarterbacks who played combined for 3,161 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Rogers showed that he can protect the football and make big plays when he needs to. The Fighting Illini need to add some more weapons at the playmaker positions, but Rogers would be an upgrade to what they have now on the roster.
SMU Mustangs
The SMU Mustangs’ offense has been one of the better ones in college football and has flexed its muscles, winning nine straight games and taking the AAC title over Tulane. Their current quarterback, Preston Stone, has performed well, scoring 28 touchdowns and six interceptions in the 2023 season.
So why would Rogers play for SMU when they have an established quarterback? Stone has completed only 59.9 percent of his passes, while Rogers completed 62.2 percent. Rogers can push Stone in spring football like what happened in North Texas. Being from Mansfield nearby, Rogers could be a good fit for SMU’s offense.
TCU Horned Frogs
Another local school to where Rogers is from, the TCU Horned Frogs, stumbled from their national championship appearance last season. Injuries hit TCU at quarterback, with Chandler Morris knocked out after six games. The Horned Frogs finished the season with a 5-7 record, missing a bowl game appearance.
TCU needs a spark on offense and can use some new players to help add talent. Rogers can be the missing element to improve their passing game. Adding Rogers would put TCU back in the conversation for at least the Big 12 title next year.
Air Force Falcons
Air Force had made an offer to Rogers before he decided to commit to Southern Miss, but the fit might make sense. The Falcons had one of the top six defenses in the country and had a promising start to the year, going 8-0. Their end to the year would not go so well, losing their last four games and missing the Mountain West Championship game.
With their offense lacking in the passing game, Rogers is an instant upgrade who can also run the football when needed. Air Force was missing the firepower in the passing game to make them elite. While the team will stick to their running-the-ball philosophy, passing the ball more would help them, and Rogers can perfectly make that transition.
