After consecutive College Football National Championship wins and molding the Georgia Bulldogs into a consistent force in the sport, Kirby Smart became the highest-paid college football coach in the history of the sport. What is Smart’s salary, contract, and net worth as the Bulldogs head coach in 2024?
Kirby Smart’s Salary and Contract in 2024
Already one of the financial frontrunners in college football, the Georgia head coach signed a contract extention that included a significant salary boost in May, 2024. As a result, Smart’s salary for the 2024 college football campaign will be $13 million. He is the first head coach in the history of the sport to hit the $13 million per year mark.
The new deal replaces a previous contract extension ahead of the 2022 college football season that paid Smart a salary of $112.5 million over 10 years. That figure already put him amongst the highest-paid coaches in college football. The new deal puts him right at the very top of the pile while adding another two years onto his time at the helm in Athens.
“I have an immense pride for representing my alma mater,” Smart said on signing his contract extension, “and look forward to that relationship continuing for many years to come.”
“Coach Smart’s unprecedented success is the definition of excellence for all of college football,” UGA President Jere W. Morehead explained about the value of Smart to the Bulldogs on announcing the contract extension, “and he has excited the Bulldog Nation about what is yet to come after winning two national championships.”
While there were no specific details released at the time of the contract extension other than the overall amount and extension to December 31, 2033, it is likely that Smart’s salary is made up of several components.
Under his previous contract, Smart earned a relatively meager base salary of $600,000 that was boosted by media compensation and equipment endorsements. The Georgia head coach is compensated for press conference appearances, regular radio shows, and any time spent on TV shows. His earnings were also tied to the program’s apparel deal with Nike.
Smart’s Net Worth
With a 10-year deal at $13 million per year, which is guaranteed money for the first half of the contract, Smart has a net worth of $130 million. However, that doesn’t include the money already paid from his original contract and previous extension.
Nor does it include any additional perks of the job, or bonuses available for delivering further success for the Bulldogs. Specifics of his bonus structure weren’t made available but Smart can up to $1.55 million a year extra. Previously the maximum available to the Georgia head coach was $1.3 million.

Under his previous contract, Smart received bonuses for SEC Championship appearances and wins, College Football Playoff appearances, and National Championship wins. With 94 career wins, two national titles, and six SEC Championship Game appearances, it’s fair to assume that the Georgia head coach has significantly boosted his net worth during his stint in Athens.
