Controversial Fumble Call Denied Auburn Key Touchdown Opportunity
One of the most debated moments of the controversy-ridden game happened late in the first half, with Auburn leading 10-0. Auburn QB Jackson Arnold tried a quarterback sneak on a third-and-goal from the Georgia 1-yard line as he was reaching unbelievably for the end zone. Georgia linebacker Raylen Wilson knocked the ball out from Arnold’s outstretched arm as Arnold neared the goal line.
Bulldogs safety Kyron Jones jumped on the loose ball on the one yard-line. The official ruled that Arnold fumbled prior to crossing the plane, angering Auburn fans. After review and an extended delay, replay officials upheld the on-field decision awarding Georgia possession and denying Auburn a potential touchdown.
