The Los Angeles Chargers looked to be set at the running back position heading into the 2025 season. Just five weeks into the season, they’ve been forced to resort to their third and fourth string running backs, and other backups.
The team used its 2025 first-round draft on running back Omarion Hampton, with the 22nd overall pick. The team also added veteran running back Najee Harris in the offseason, to put together a two-headed tandem in its backfield. Unfortunately for the Chargers, Harris suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 3, and Hampton was placed on injured reserve two weeks later after spraining his ankle.

As a result, backup running backs Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins have received the backfield duties. Vidal has been the team’s most productive back since Hampton and Harris have been sidelined.
Appearing in four games this season, Vidal has rushed for 162 yards on 32 carries and has eight receptions for 30 yards and a receiving touchdown. That’s not good as 124 of those yards came against a weak Miami Dolphins defense two weeks ago. The very next game, in the Chargers’ most recent game, Vidal struggled, running the ball nine times and only gaining 20 yards against a stout Indianapolis Colts defense.
Kimani Vidal should have a large load tonight vs. the Vikings with Hassan Haskins out
The Los Angeles Chargers currently have Kimani Vidal listed as RB1 on its depth chart with Hassan Haskins as RB2. The Chargers host the Minnesota Vikings tonight to begin the Week 8 slate of the NFL, and Vidal is set to be used a lot.
Haskins was ruled out by the team yesterday, as he is dealing with a hamstring injury.

With Haskins out, Nyheim Hines will serve as Vidal’s backup. Even with a thinner backfield, the Chargers are still three-and-a-half point favorites over the Vikings.
Tonight’s kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET and can be watched on Amazon Prime. Who do you think will win tonight’s game?
