Colin Cowherd Weighs In on ‘Unlimited’ Disrespect Faced by Russell Wilson Following HC Sean Payton’s ‘Classless’ Comment

NFL analyst Colin Cowherd is the latest to chime in on the ongoing feud between Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton and New York Giants quarterback. The relationship between the two became worse after the Broncos’ 33-32 comeback win on Sunday.

After the game, Payton allegedly took shots at the Giants quarterback for being benched in favor of Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. In the post-game interview, the head coach said:

“They found a little spark with that quarterback. I was talking to John Mara not too long ago and I said, ‘we were hoping that that change would’ve happened long after our game.'”

Wilson found this comment a shot to him and he went on X to call Payton “classless”:

    “Classless… but not surprised…. Didn’t realize you’re still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the media. 😎😂 #LetsRide 🤣”

The “bounty hunting” reference is to the long-ago New Orleans Saints bounty scandal (commonly “Bountygate”), an era in which Payton was implicated.

On Thursday, Colin Cowherd said he knew that Wilson was not going to sit back without a response over Payton’s remarks. The analyst said:

“You knew that was coming,” Cowherd said on his show. “So Russell has lived in this kind of prism of he didn’t get respect at NC State, he didn’t get respect in Wisconsin, and he didn’t get a ton of respect in Seattle. I think he’s just tired of it.”

Cowherd shared his comments through a video on Instagram. He captioned:

“The disrespect for Russell Wilson is… unlimited 😜 @colincowherd”

Sean Payton Reveals Intention Behind Saying What He Said Concerning Russell Wilson

On Wednesday, Sean Payton spoke about the fallout following his postgame remarks that elicited a response from Russell Wilson. However, the Broncos head coach clarified that he was in no way taking a dig at the veteran quarterback.

“The euphoria, the way that game unfolded, that was strictly about Dart,” Payton told reporters. “That was in no way, shape or form directed at Russ. I might be able to see how he would perceive that. But coming off that win and watching how he played. That wasn’t any intention at all.”

Wilson and Payton worked together at the Broncos in the 2023 season. After underwhelming performances, Payton benched Wilson before he was released by the franchise in March 2024. So, the quarterback and the head coach already share a strained history and the latest remarks reignited the feud between the two.
