Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has been unable to stay healthy the past two seasons. Last season, he suffered a major lower-leg injury that kept him out for the rest of the season. His recovery bled into this season, but he finally returned on Sept. 28 against Philadelphia. However, after his second week back, he missed practice with a fibula issue and has not returned to the lineup.
What Happened to Chris Godwin?
Chris Godwin appeared on the injury report in Week 6 with a fibula issue. His absence was initially described as precautionary. However, he ended up sitting out the team’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. He was then absent again this past week against Detroit.
Reports indicate that the injury is not serious and not related to his surgically repaired ankle. However, he is still listed as week-to-week, and he is not expected to play on Sunday against New Orleans.
Is Chris Godwin Playing Week 8?
While Chris Godwin is still officially listed as questionable on the injury report, he is not expected to play in Week 8. With his injury, along with an injury to star WR Mike Evans, rookie Tez Johnson has been promoted to the WR2 slot.

Chris Godwin Fantasy Outlook
Earlier in his career, Chris Godwin was a viable fantasy option. He even appeared on the Second-team All-Pro in 2019. However, that was several years ago now, and he is no longer a reliable fantasy player. Even if Godwin returns to the lineup soon, his fantasy outlook is not good.
After missing most of last season with a severe ankle injury, Godwin has only played two games this season. In those two games, he has six receptions for 14 yards. He is not getting enough workload to be a viable fantasy option. As a result, until his numbers go up, he is not even a player who is worth keeping on your bench or IR. However, picking up Tez Johnson could be a viable option.
