Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Trolls Rumors Of Nick Saban’s Gators Links Following Billy Napier Firing

Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, is seemingly not interested in legendary college football coach-turned-sportscaster, Nick Saban, for the Florida Gators’ vacant coaching spot. On Sunday, Oct. 19, the collegiate football world went into shock after the Gators sacked Billy Napier, despite still being under contract.

A post on X/Twitter suggested that the Gators could be looking at former Alabama Crimson Tide shot-caller Saban, who retired from coaching in January 2024. Florida Governor DeSantis took to his X to repost the report mentioned above and poke fun at it with a sarcastic reaction that entails him winning the lottery.

DeSantis is a Gators fan and may have been surprised by the firing of coach Napier. In his final game as the team’s head coach, Napier spearheaded the Gators to an intense two-point win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 23-21, in Week 7 of the campaign on their home pitch, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Napier leaves behind a 3-4 overall record (2-2 SEC) as the season surpasses its mid-point. It was also announced by the Gators program that receivers tactician Billy Gonzales has been called up to take over the void left by Napier as an interim head coach for the rest of the season. This was Napier’s fourth season with the team after he was signed in 2022.

If Florida considers Saban, then they will be led by a proven college football coach who has an astounding seven national championships to his name, the most in collegiate football history. Most of this success came with the Crimson Tide.

Ron DeSantis Claims That Nick Saban Would Hate The State Of NIL In College Football Today

In the X post by Ron DeSantis, a user pointed out that Terry, Nick Saban’s wife, has already dismissed the idea that the former Alabama Crimson Tide tactician would come out of retirement to be one of the prospective coaches for the Florida Gators.

DeSantis replied to this by claiming that Saban would hate dealing with NIL and that he should stay a sports analyst on broadcast.
