“Until Nick Saban Says No”: Fans React as FSU Makes Major Mike Norvell Decision Amid $54,000,000 Contract Buyout

Mike Norvell’s Florida State’s 2025 season has unraveled into one of the most disappointing stretches in recent program history. The Seminoles, once expected to compete for the ACC title, now sit toward the bottom of the table as their season slips away.

Consecutive losses, sloppy execution, and recurring second-half collapses have fueled frustration across the fanbase. Many are calling for sweeping changes within the program, including at the head coach position.

Athletic Director Michael Alford has acknowledged the mounting pressure, saying a full review of the football program will take place once the season concludes. Fans aren’t happy with this approach as they were expecting a change now.

“The school is fully committed until Saban says no,” a fan wrote.

“Man this just means they can’t rip that buyout check. The team will likely be checked out the rest of the season,” a fan wrote.

“FSU’s tag line, “Keep Climbing”, should be changed to “Stop Digging” since the hole they are in is getting bigger by the week,” a fan wrote.

“I’m not sure we all have the same “standard” in mind,” a fan wrote.

“In other words, after the season ends they will fire Norvell,” a fan wrote.

“They don’t have the money for the buyout LOL,” a fan wrote.

The $54 million buyout scenario in Norvell’s case can be very costly for FSU. When their season began against Alabama, it wasn’t even a concern. The Seminoles hit the ground running, registering a dominant 31-17 win.

In the next two games against East Texas and Kent State, they performed even better, registering back to back blowout wins. But that was the end of their glorious run. Since then, FSU has lost four consecutive games.

Mike Norvell Hasn’t Delivered As Per Expectations

Norvell’s future at Florida State is now a central storyline. His tenure has produced moments of promise but has failed to deliver consistent results. The Seminoles have regressed sharply from the progress seen two seasons ago, leading to serious doubts about his ability to lead the team back to national relevance.

However, the financial implications make an immediate firing unlikely. Norvell’s contract carries a buyout worth near $54 million, one of the largest in college football. That figure reflects nearly 85 percent of his remaining guaranteed salary, creating a major obstacle for the school.

Alford’s recent remarks made clear that no decisions will be made before the season ends. He intends to conduct a comprehensive review of all aspects of the football program, from on-field performance to staff structure and recruiting direction.

While the review signals accountability, it also suggests that Florida State will wait until the offseason to determine Norvell’s future. For now, the program remains in limbo, with fan unrest growing louder each week.
