Texans RB Depth Chart: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know as Joe Mixon Remains Sidelined With Injury

The Houston Texans made a big splash last offseason, acquiring running back Joe Mixon. The next day, he signed a three-year $27 million extension to remain with the team for an extended period of time.

Last year, in his first season as a Houston Texan, Mixon rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 14 games. This year, Mixon has been sidelined all season with a foot injury suffered this offseason. He also dealt with foot injuries last season.

As a result, Mixon was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football list, keeping him sidelined for at least the first four games of the 2025 season.

There haven’t been many updates, let alone positive ones regarding Mixon’s health and recovery from his foot issues. Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle said it’s believed to be a very serious injury to his foot or ankle, and doesn’t think Mixon will return back to the field this season.

“One league source I spoke to a month ago had doubts about whether he’ll return this season. And those doubts have not changed. There was a glimmer of hope that his foot would respond to treatment and change the prognosis. Of all the people I’ve spoken with about this, there is no one who has told me they expect him to return this season. And if he was, someone would tell me.”

Nick Chubb, Woody Marks have split duties in Houston’s backfield with Joe Mixon sidelined

With Joe Mixon sidelined all season thus far, the Houston Texans have had to lean on Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks to handle the bulk of the backfield duties.

The Texans signed Chubb in the offseason to a one-year deal. He leads the team in rushing yards with 292 and has scored two rushing touchdowns. He also has seven catches for 46 yards.

The team drafted Marks in the fourth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. So far on the season, he has 137 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, six receptions, 96 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown.

It is unclear when the team will get Mixon back, so for now, the backfield will be run by Chubb and Marks.
