“Call Deion” “Lanning to Florida”: Fans React As Pete Thamel Reports About Billy Napier’s Firing Despite Over $21,000,000 Buyout

Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier was not having the smoothest year so far in 2025, and according to college football insider Pete Thamel’s latest report, it doesn’t seem to get better just yet. As per reports, Napier is owed 21.2 million by the Gators.

The Gators have been struggling to win games in the 2025 college football season. While they didn’t have it easy with their schedule this year, their loss against South Florida was seen as the final nail in the coffin for many fans and analysts for the end of Napier’s time with the program.

After a 23-21 loss against Mississippi State on Saturday, Thamel reported that Florida is firing Napier, who went 22-23 in the four seasons he was with the Gators.

“Who do you get at this point? I’m not saying that they shouldn’t make a change, but that job has been a revolving door since Urban Meyer left. Sooner or later it becomes more of a program issue not a coach issue.” one fan posed an important question.

“Much needed… but we all know the gators aren’t winning anything if Scott Stricklin’s choosing the next head coach again.” another fan expressed concern about Gators’ next head coach.

“Call Deion! He’d own the state of Florida in recruiting easily!.” another fan suggested.

“I really dont get how Florida fans believe theyre a top job because urban Meyer won there 2 decades ago. In the new age of football theyve been nothing but a dumpster fire. Especially since they dont have an sec East to beat up on. There’s a reason you had sunbelt Billy 1st place.” another fan wrote.

“Lanning to Florida is going to be dangerous.” another fan commented.

“Florida’s AD assured everyone that Napier would finish the season as head coach with his letter earlier this season. Guess he’s trying to get ahead of the hot coaching vacancy market!.” another fan noted.

Analyst Teases Nick Saban As Potential Billy Napier Replacement

Nick Saban, who has 7 national championships under his belt, announced his decision to retire after the 2023 college football season due to the rapidly changing landscape of college football that did not resonate with him.

As the ex-Alabama head coach enjoys his gig with Pat McAfee and Co. on the college game day panel, analyst Danny Kennell believes his name should not be forgotten when finding replacements for Billy Napier.

While Saban’s name keeps popping up for various coaching jobs, his wife, Miss Terry, recently shared that the couple are enjoying his retirement too much for him to get back to coaching,  even though she still believes he can secure his 8th national championship if he did decide to return to coaching.
