The Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel debate has been taking over the internet since the moment the Browns picked both the quarterbacks during the 2025 NFL Draft.
While it was the veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who was given the starting role for the first few weeks, ex Oregon star Dillon Gabriel is the man of the hour for the Browns as he is gearing up to start against the Miami Dolphins in week 7.
However, fans are rooting for Shedeur Sanders to take the centre stage at Cleveland, which has not been the case yet, while he has upgraded from being the QB3 to the QB2, his starting QB future is still uncertain.
Talking about under what conditions can the fans see Shedeur Sanders on the field, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot highlightes a few concerns with Gabriel’s game that could shift the spotlight to Shedeur.
Do you expect Browns wide receivers would want to keep playing with Dillon Gabriel and trust him knowing he’s throwing hospital balls if it’s not a checkdown? Over 80% of his passes been only those. It seems like he’s not confident enough to throw a deep ball. – A fan asked.
To which Cabot replied saying: “Gabriel was off on a number of his throws in last Sunday’s 23-9 loss to the Steelers, but that’s largely because he under siege so much of the game. Given time, he’ll be a lot more accurate. What’s more, almost half a dozen of his decent to good throws were dropped, which makes it tough to get into a rhythm.”
“Unfortunately for Gabriel, the forecast in downtown Cleveland Sunday against the Dolphins calls for rain and high winds. It will be tough to bolster the passing game under those conditions. Let’s see how he does over the next several weeks. If he can’t cut it, it will Sanders’ turn.”
