LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey recently revealed how her program is shaping up with two of its standouts, Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow, moving to the WNBA. On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Mulkey was among the women’s college basketball coaches who held a media availability for this year’s SEC Basketball Tipoff in Birmingham, Alabama, and shared what’s in store for her team moving forward.
At one point in the press conference, Mulkey was asked how her LSU program has compensated for the loss of former forward Aneesah Morrow, who has become a rookie for the Connecticut Sun. Mentioning the loss of now Chicago Sky stalwart Angel Reese, Mulkey said her squad will rely on a collective team effort instead of individual talent.
“Well, if you think about it, losing Reese and losing Morrow, boy, you just have to think about the rebounds. I don’t know right now if we’re capable of having a player that can go do that by herself. So, let’s do it collectively. I’m excited about our post play. We have five players that have never put on an LSU uniform and it’s fun to watch them battle every day,” Mulkey said. (8:02)
“But when the lights come on and we start playing games, it’ll be real interesting to see who goes and gets those rebounds. But, it may be more of a collective effort than just one player,” she concluded.
Mulkey, along with Reese, famously won LSU its first-ever national title in the 2023 NCAA tournament. Morrow then joined the fray, transferring from the DePaul Blue Demons in the 2023-24 season. Unfortunately for Mulkey and company, their national championship defense campaign was foiled by the Iowa Hawkeyes through a seven-point defeat in the Elite Eight of the 2024 national tourney, 94-87.
Last year, with Morrow as the focal point of her system, Mulkey and the 2024-25 Tigers were once again defeated in the Elite Eight. This time, their season was ended by the UCLA Bruins through another seven-point loss, 72-65. Morrow has since gone on to be the seventh pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, while Reese was seventh overall a year prior.

Angel Reese And Aneesah Morrow Led The LSU Tigers In Rebounding During Their Runs
The loss of both Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow means that there is a hefty void to fill in the LSU Tigers’ rebounding depth.
This is because Reese led the program in rebounding for two straight seasons in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns with averages of 15.4 and 13.4, respectively. This was followed by Morrow in the recently concluded season, as she tallied around 13.5 boards a game.
