After seven productive seasons as a member of the Green Bay Packers, running back Aaron Jones left the team in 2024 and signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal.
After rushing for a career-high 1,138 yards last season, the Vikings awarded Jones with a two-year $20 million contract extension. The Vikings also acquired running back Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers to bolster their backfield.
After just two games into the 2025 season, Jones was put on injured reserve.
What Happened to Aaron Jones?
Aaron Jones suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons. The injury was serious enough for the Vikings to have him sit out at least four games, placing him on injured reserve. The earliest Jones can return is Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Vikings are placing starting RB Aaron Jones on Injured Reserve, knocking him out four games, per me and @TomPelissero. He has a hamstring injury.

Is Aaron Jones Playing This Week?
No, Aaron Jones is not playing this week. Even if Jones were 100% healthy, he would not be able to suit up against the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.
Since Jones is on injured reserve, he’s required to miss at least four games, not four weeks. This means the earliest he can return is on October 23, when the Vikings face the Los Angeles Chargers on the road.
Aaron Jones Fantasy Outlook
Aaron Jones’ fantasy owners aren’t in the best position. After rushing for over 1,100 yards last season, many thought Jones still had a decent amount of gas left in the tank and could be primed for another productive season.
Following his injury and the emergence of running back Jordan Mason, Jones’ fantasy value has dropped. He will likely split the backfield when he returns.
When Jones returns, he will look to take control of the backfield. For fantasy owners, Jones may be a good start at RB2 or as a flex option when he returns.
