Emeka Egbuka Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Buccaneers WR Ahead Week 7

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are experiencing a lot of injury problems, and one of them is rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, who has hit a massive road bump so early into his NFL career. During that 30-19 win against the also-injury-depleted San Francisco 49ers, the Bucs’ 19th overall draft pick injured himself as the already-depleted Buccaneers get even more short-handed this season.

Several Bucs wide receivers were already hurt, including Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan. Also missing games are Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving, with quarterback Baker Mayfield running out of options as the injury bug bites hard.

    What Happened to Emeka Egbuka?

During last Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, Egbuka suffered a hamstring injury and had to be helped out of the field. Before that injury, however, the wide receiver already had 445 receiving yards and five touchdowns, which was the second-most in the league at that time.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said he did not have an update on the wide receiver yet as he was still getting evaluated at that time. However, since this is a hamstring injury, it may be treated with more seriousness than usual.

Insider and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio noted that the Bucs’ management currently believe that his injuries are not that serious and are still waiting for an MRI to provide a better picture of the extent of his injuries.

Is Emeka Egbuka Playing This Week?

Also because this is a hamstring injury, Emeka Egbuka is now expected to miss games for “some time.” This comes as the Bucs wide receiver room is now very much depleted and their Week 7 showdown with the Detroit Lions is happening on Monday, Oct. 20. With that kind of injury, the rookie is expected to miss the Monday Night Football game and maybe also several other games.

His absence will make things even more complicated for the depleted Bucs as the rookie had been a consistent target for QB Baker Mayfield and the team is already missing several wide receivers.

    Emeka Egbuka Fantasy Outlook

Egbuka is expected to miss several games during this injury, and might not look good for Fantasy managers who want to drop the rookie in favor of other possible picks. However, sitting him out and see if he could return earlier than expected is also a good option.

Expect Tez Johnson and undrafted second-year pro Kameron Johnson to step up even more for the Bucs as their wide receiver room gets dwindled more and more.
