Dawn Staley and South Carolina were dealt a big blow on October 13. After last season’s national championship final loss vs Geno Auriemma’s UConn, Staley’s Gamecocks hadn’t added any 2026 recruits to their roster.
Recently, Iowa snatched McKenna Woliczko’s commitment from South Carolina. After letting estranged MiLaysia Fulwiley go, Dawn Staley welcomed TaNiya Latson to strengthen the roster. Now South Carolina have finally added Kelsi Andrews as she became the first 2026 recruit to join the Gamecocks.
However, bad news struck the South Carolina offices on Monday morning with one of their star players set to miss the entirety of the 2025-26 season. Chloe Kitts announced on Instagram that she has suffered ACL tear and won’t be able to participate in the upcoming season.
Considering the importance of Kitts for Staley’s system, Gamecocks are in a spot of bother just a few days ahead of the new season. Fans were visibly worried about Kitts and how the South Carolina team will line up.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support,” she posted. “I recently suffered an ACL tear and, unfortunately, will be out for the season. While this isn’t how I hoped my senior year would go, I’m trusting god’s timing and purpose. I’ll continue to lead, support, and push my team from the sidelines. We have big things ahead!”
Pro volleyball player Isabel Martin was among the ones sending prayers for injured Chloe. “Praying for you,” she commented.
“Oh no Chloe!! I’m sorry it happened to you, praying for a quick recovery & back stronger than ever!!” one fan sympathized.
“I am so sorry to hear this! wishing you all the best on your road to recovery! forever to thee,” another expressed sadness.
“Oh, No. So heartbroken for you & for our Gamecock Team; however, I agree..God will help you through this & you will come out all good. So very sorry. Prayers for a successful recovery,” another fan prayed for her well-being.
“I figured but this isn’t the first thing I wanted to see this morning, praying for a full recovery Chloe,” another expressed discontent.
“Lord no well I tell u what that comeback will be one for the Books hang on in there pretty girl,” one user said.
“This is the weakest front court Dawn has had in years LSU definitely beating them this year,” another claimed.
Chloe Kitts’ Career With South Carolina
Kitts will miss her senior season with the Gamecocks. The forward joined the team in December 2022. She immediately became an integral part of Staley’s plans. Statistically, Kitts hasn’t outshined people in her college career, however her intensity, and passion to perform is a quality that Staley would not trade for any stat.
In her three years, she has averaged over 8 points, 1.5 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game. Except for her freshman season, Kitts has been a starter for the Gamecocks. She won the NCAA championship with South Carolina in 2024. Kitts was also awarded SEC Tournament MVP, NCAA Regional MVP and had an All-America honorable mention 2025.
Dawn Staley would certainly miss Kitts’ presence and would have to change things around to deal with her unfortunate absence.
We wish a speedy recovery to Chloe Kitts!
