The Arizona Cardinals have not had a great start to their season. They have lost two of their first five games and are now set to play the 4-1 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Part of the reason the team has struggled is because of its poor injury luck at the running back position.
The Cardinals started the season with James Conner as their starting running back. However, after three games, he went down with a foot injury that is expected to keep him out long-term. As a result, second-year pro Trey Benson stepped in as the team’s starter. Unfortunately for the team, he was injured against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4.
This resulted in the team needing to turn to its third-string running back and beyond in Week 5. It did not work out for the team. Michael Carter got the majority of the snaps, but only averaged 2.8 yards per carry on 18 carries. Emari Demercado nearly made a big play for the team, but fumbled the ball at the one-yard line by showboating before getting into the endzone.
Imagine being Emari Demercado… play football your whole life… work your ass off… you need James Conner and Trey Benson to BOTH go down for you to have any relevancy… you FINALLY get your chance and you let the ball go for a game-changing fumble at GL

As a result, the Arizona Cardinals are expected to start Bam Knight on Sunday. Knight has limited experience but is projected to start for the team after the struggles of Carter and Demercado.
Fantasy Outlook for Arizona Cardinals RB Bam Knight
The Arizona Cardinals are starting Bam Knight out of necessity, not because he is a proven commodity. After a poor performance from Michael Carter and a massive blunder from Emari Demercado last week, the team is hoping Bam Knight can generate better results. However, that does not make him a good fantasy option.
Knight is in his third NFL season and has never had more than 85 carries in a season. His career average yards per carry is 3.5, and he has just two TDs in his career so far. So, while Knight has a chance to have a strong game by his standards, there are likely better options on the waiver wire.
