Dan Orlovsky reaffirmed his belief in Arch Manning’s potential on his Thursday appearance on ESPN’s Get Up! He claimed Manning will be the first pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
“Arch Manning is going to be the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft,” Orlovsky said.
“I’ve never felt better about that than watching this past week… He’s custom-made for the NFL game”, he further elaborated.
That’s a bold statement for a sophomore who is coming off a 3-2 start to the season after the team entered the season with the highest rank in the country. It’s interesting to hear those comments, as the Red River Rivalry showdown between Texas and Oklahoma is on Saturday. The matchup is one of the most competitive college football rivalries.

Orlovsky offered little context to what he thought in relation to Manning’s play in recent games. He indicated that there is talent there, even after losses that no one saw coming back in August.
The ESPN analyst also focused in on the Longhorns’ supporting cast, which he labeled as one of the worst roster miscalculations in recent times. His assessment implied that Manning does not have enough to work with around him:
“Let’s be very clear about Texas, It’s probably as big of a roster whiff as we’ve had in years. It’s arguably the worst offensive line in the SEC.
“They don’t have a tailback who’s a difference maker right now. Their best receiver is a redshirt freshman named Parker Livingstone. This is not a very good football team.”
This degree of endorsement seems quite bold, given Manning’s statistical snapshot. Manning was below 60% completion in both the losses, and also had as many picks as touchdowns in those game. Early in the UTEP game, he recorded a 44% completion with a grand total of 114 yards, and Texas got the win.

A Strong Performance Could Boost Arch Manning’s Draft Prospects
The context surrounding Orlovsky’s statements adds further interest because of the Red River Rivalry game.

If Manning would like to alter the public’s perception of him, he has to deliver a solid performance against the Sooners to be included in discussions as a potential 2027 first-round draft.
