The Giants stunned the Jalen Hurts’ Eagles 34–17, handing Philadelphia their second consecutive loss. In the first half, the Eagles used four straight Tush Push attempts, eventually punching one in for a touchdown and briefly taking a lead.
But after that, New York dominated the rest of the game, shutting out Philadelphia in the second half. The controversy centers on officiating failures during that red-zone sequence. Replays show Tyler Steen shifting early, making a false start, which should have negated or penalized the play.
That call was missed, which fueled anger from analysts, fans, and even coaches. That’s where ESPN’s Mike Greenberg stepped in with sharp criticism. He framed the situation as a moment that should embarrass the league.
Greenberg failed to wrap his head around how a play so repetitive and punitive could go unchecked. He apologized, essentially saying fans deserved better than to be stuck watching four push plays in a row with no accountability.
“On behalf of the National Football League and its fans, I apologize to anyone who had to sit through this,” Greenberg said. “They wind up running four consecutive tush pushes to the amusement of no one. And then they’re jumping early, no one cares. It’s ridiculous, but whatever.”

This isn’t just about one glitchy sequence. It’s about how this signature Eagles play has become emblematic of a broader problem. Officials lag behind, rules struggle to keep pace, and what might be legal becomes unwatchable when used so mechanically. That’s why his critique hits hard and demands attention.
The Eagles are nearly unstoppable when they run this play, and the officials struggle to check for penalties. More importantly, the repetition of the play makes it unbearable to watch for fans.
Jalen Hurts Blamed Himself for the Loss
The Eagles started the season on a high note and won four straight games. But over the last two weeks, they’ve looked off, and that has resulted in back-to-back losses against the Broncos and the Giants.
After their recent loss, Jalen Hurts spoke to the media and blamed himself for the same. He stated he needs to do better to get his team back on track.
“I’ve got to be better, I’ve got to be better,” Hurts said. “I take ownership for it. A lot of opportunity there with the ball in my hands, and given those situations, I have to be wiser and more detailed with it.”
Hurts said that he sees a lot of opportunities in the situation his team is in right now. He believes he can turn things around in the coming weeks.
