Former NFL player and current sports analyst, Geoff Schwartz, recently shared his thoughts on the growing issues between legendary coach Bill Belichick and his program, the North Carolina Tar Heels. On Wednesday, Oct. 8, Schwartz posted on his X/Twitter account about the alleged fallout between the former New England Patriots coach and UNC.
Reports have claimed that Belichick is having internal problems with the football program, his own staff, and his players. These developments have gone as far as reporting that Belichick has already started to discuss his buyout options. Schwartz felt that this was bound to happen.
“The Belichick disaster seemed so inevitable. Old grumpy NFL coach who lost his touch in the league. Going to college for the first time with almost no connections to the sport. Portal + NIL era has been difficult for even established coaches. Roster bad. Couldn’t connect with the players, etc,” he wrote.

Schwartz was a former offensive guard in the NFL for eight years, from 2008 to 2016, for teams such as the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants. He spent his collegiate football days with the Oregon Ducks from 2004 to 2007, and retired nine years ago to become a multi-faceted analyst.
Belichick and the UNC program are fresh off two straight losses in the 2025 season against the UCF Knights and the Clemson Tigers, 34-9 and 38-10, respectively, which merits them a below .500 record of 2-3. Their next opportunity to get back in the win column will be on Friday, Oct. 17, against the California Golden Bears.

Bill Belichick Is Reportedly Having A Lot Of Odd Communication With His Staff As Of Late
According to a report by Ollie Connolly on X/Twitter, Bill Belichick’s communication with his North Carolina Tar Heels coaching staff has been “weird” and “distant.”
This could be one of the factors in the UNC’s poor record so far, as this year’s campaign reaches the midway point. Furthermore, it is alleged that several members of the program have not been able to communicate promptly with Belichick as of late.
“Belichick’s communication with his staff in the past two weeks has been described as ‘weird’ and ‘distant’ by multiple members of UNC’s coaching staff. Multiple coaches were unable to get hold of him during UNC’s bye week,” Connolly wrote on X.
