Fantasy football lineups always present tough choices, and Week 6 delivers one that’ll test your gut: Baker Mayfield vs. Matthew Stafford. Both are seasoned quarterbacks capable of big days, but each comes with his share of red flags. Let’s break down who’s the smarter start this week.
Are Baker Mayfield And Matthew Stafford Viable Fantasy Options In Week 6?
Baker Mayfield Outlook
Baker Mayfield’s career has been full of ups and downs, but in 2025, he’s quietly giving Tampa Bay fans something to believe in. Through five weeks, he’s thrown for over 1,200 yards with 10 touchdowns and just one pick. Yet the thing that has shone the most is how calm he has been this year; he looks extremely comfortable. His chemistry with Chris Godwin and Trey Palmer has started to click, and the Buccaneers are keeping him upright long enough to make plays.
The matchup also leans in Mayfield’s favor. The 49ers’ defense has been about down the middle in everything. However, that hasn’t stopped the Bucs. The Falcons have allowed the lowest passing yards per game, yet Baker had 22.6 against them. For fantasy owners, that means Mayfield could post another 18–22 point outing, especially if Tampa’s running game continues to open things up early.
Matthew Stafford Outlook
Matthew Stafford, on the other hand, still brings name value, but not the same security. The veteran has been grinding through a back injury identified as an aggravated disk, and even with Davante Adams, the Rams offense hasn’t quite hit full stride. Stafford has topped 300 yards twice this season. The touchdown numbers haven’t been horrible, with 11 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
This week, the Rams could figure some things out as they are playing the Ravens. Baltimore got absolutely trashed by the Texans 44-10 last week and got CJ Stroud back on track. Stafford could have a big game if he can connect on some early throws and stay upright.
The Ravens have a number of defensive players who are questionable, including Kyle Hamilton and Roquan Smith. If they are both able to give it a go, expect more issues for the Rams compared to the Texans’ success.
Bottom Line
Roll with Baker Mayfield in Week 6. He’s got a cleaner matchup and more stable rhythm. Of late, the Bucs have been too hot a team, and they are simply playing better football right now.
