Is Deion Sanders Sick? Coach Prime Reveals New Health Battle That Has Fans Concerned

Deion Sanders is once again facing a serious health scare, this time involving what he believes could be a recurrence of blood clots in his leg. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach appeared to be in visible pain during the team’s recent loss to TCU.

After the game, Sanders admitted he was dealing with intense pain in his left leg and suspected the return of circulation issues similar to those he has battled in the past. He is set to undergo a four-hour procedure for blood clots in his leg.

The news has left fans and the college football world worried about his ability to continue leading the team at full strength. The timing of the issue is concerning, as the Buffaloes are entering a critical stretch of their season.

Sanders has continued to coach through physical challenges before, but this latest flare-up raises questions about his stamina and mobility. However, Coach Prime is confident that he will be at practice on Wednesday.

“I am having a procedure today,” Sanders SAID, as per On3. “Prayerfully I’ll be right back at practice tomorrow. It is what it is what. Found what we found. I have a wonderful team of doctors at UC Health and a team of wonderful trainers here.”

“It has nothing to do with me working at the level and competing … it is hereditary. It is what it is. I trust God with all my heart,” he added.

While the school has not issued any official update, Colorado’s staff is reportedly prepared to adjust responsibilities if Sanders needs to reduce his workload. For now, he remains in charge of the program but may need to take precautions until doctors confirm the extent of the issue.

Deion Sanders’ History of Blood Clots and Health Battles

This is not the first time Sanders has dealt with serious medical complications. He previously suffered from circulation problems that led to multiple surgeries and the amputation of two toes in 2021. He also underwent procedures in 2023 to remove clots from both legs.

Earlier in 2025, he recovered from bladder cancer following major surgery.

“The process wasn’t easy,” Sanders SAID at the time. “Make sure you go to the get the right care. Because without wonderful people like this, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here today, because it grew so expeditiously, I could say, but please get yourself checked out.”

Given this history, even a minor recurrence poses real concern. Sanders’ determination has kept him on the field before, but with recurring clot issues, his health will again take priority over football in the coming weeks.
