    Deion Sanders Opens Up About Hall of Famer’s Message That Helped Him Push Through Recovery

    NFL great and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders kept his battle with cancer private and only revealed it ahead of the 2025 season when it was revealed that he is cancer free. He sat down with Michael Strahan on “Good Morning America” where the former Dallas Cowboys great opened up on his recovery from cancer and other things.

    During the interview, which was held at Folsom Field in Boulder, Sanders revealed that je received an inspirational message from none other than Minnesota Vikings great Randy Moss, and that message helped the Colorado coach push through his cancer recovery.

    “That’s why I’m thanking God for Randy Moss who just left. He called me and said, “This is what’s going to happen. This is how you gonna feel.” And you like, “Okay,” but it was real, man. He put it down, man. He he he told me what was up. Let me know, “Get your butt up. Quit having a pity party and go walking.” Because for like a few days to a week, I didn’t come out the room,” said Deion Sanders. (12:44)

    As training camp began over at Boulder, Sanders stayed in his Texas home as he was dealing with an undisclosed health situation. Many believed that his blood clots have returned and was dealing with them again, but it turned out to be a completely different ailment as it was a cancerous tumor in his bladder.

    That tumor was soon removed and Sanders, who has admitted it has been difficult for him to recover, admitted that he must now go to the bathroom frequently as the removal of the tumor has affected his urinary system a lot. He has since gotten back to Boulder, though he does have a porta potty in the field so he could deal with his bladder issues.

    What Exact Kind of Cancer Does Deion Sanders Have?

    During that same interview with Michael Strahan, Deion Sanders revealed the exact type of cancer he had battled with, and that is a non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. This type of cancer is known to be a aggressive and has a 50% recurrence rate.

    He also noted that he was given two options to treat the cancer because itn was so aggressive, and that was removing his bladder entirely or undergoing 36 weeks of chemotherapy. He then stated that both “options scared me to death.” He would then opt to have his bladder removed.
