Shedeur Sanders’ chances of making NFL debut this season might have taken a big hit after fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel sealed his spot as starting quarterback going forward with impressive display in London on Sunday.
Gabriel and Sanders were both drafted in April, with the latter picked No. 144 by the Cleveland Browns. After four weeks of lackluster performance from former Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco, the Browns awarded Gabriel his NFL debut and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
While the Browns lost the game 21-17 against the Minnesota Vikings, Gabriel seemed like a good deal for the Browns. He completed 19 of 33 passes for two touchdowns and no interceptions. Shedeur Sanders’ Quiet Interview Leads To Controversey Involving His Mother Pilar
Shedeur Sanders came out to speak after his silent interview following quarterback change began to create controversy around the NFL circles. Sanders’ silence was interpreted as controversial. Former NFL coach and analyst Rex Ryan criticized the behavior, calling it an “embarrassment.”
“Something’s missing with this kid,” Ryan said on Get Up. “This kid talks and he runs his mouth. Like he said, ‘I can be a starting quarterback’ with his arms crossed like this. Get your a** in the front row and study and do all that. If I know, the whole league knows. Quit being an embarrassment that way.”
Deion Sanders’ ex-wife and Shedeur Sanders’ mother Pilar Sanders didn’t take the criticism well. She hit back at the ESPN analyst, saying:
“To young Athletes and Football fans – This is what impotent, cancerous, envious energy looks like,” she posted on Instagram. “This type of Evile[sic] goes waaay back – you can cut it with a knife- embedded in blood and bones seeping through all of the rotting worm holes it has. What and who does he really represent? Its’ family and peers should be embarrassed to know and let this on their platforms. There’s no room for this type in sports. Please [shushing emoji] Tsk tsk tsk Enuff[sic]!”
In the meantime, Shedeur Sanders has reportedly talked with the Browns about his future. The franchise has assured the quarterback that he will be given his due chance when the opportunity arises.
