The football world was shocked to hear on Saturday that for NFL player and Fox analyst, Mark Sanchez, was stabbed in an altercation. Not many details were initially known about the incident. However, on Sunday, new information came to light, and despite being stabbed, Sanchez has been charged with three misdemeanors in relation to his involvement in the incident. He was charged with battery with injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a vehicle, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Marion County prosecutor, Ryan Mears, released a statement on Sunday regarding the incident.
“This incident should never have happened,” Ryan Mears said. “What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured. As with any case, we will follow the facts and the law wherever they lead.”
According to an affidavit for probable cause, Sanchez allegedly got into an argument with a truck driver at a hotel loading dock. Then, as the confrontation escalated, the truck driver started to think he could be in danger. As a result, he sprayed Sanchez in the face with pepper spray. Sanchez then started moving towards him, and the truck driver believed Sanchez was trying to “kill” him.
The driver then pulled out his knife as Sanchez advanced towards him before stabbing him two or three times. The truck driver claims he was thrown to the ground and thought he was in a life-or-death situation.
Mark Sanchez Will Have His Initital Hearing on Tuesday

Sanchez was scheduled to be part of the broadcast for the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts. That will no longer be the case. However, his long-term status with Fox has not been determined.
Before his broadcasting career, Sanchez played eight seasons in the NFL. He retired in 2018.
