Bill Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels will be missing quarterback Gio Lopez against the struggling Clemson Tigers on Saturday. However, this also marks a big opportunity for backup QB Max Johnson, who will finally be having his first start of the season in place of the injured Lopez.
Johnson, a senior, will be facing a lot of pressure, as this will be North Carolina’s ACC opener, which will also be Bill Belichick‘s first time facing an opponent from the same conference.
With the senior quarterback finally getting his first start of the season, his girlfriend, Adrienne Davis, posted a photo with Johnson as she celebrated his first start under Belichick. She wore a blue one-piece dress, while he wore a suit.
“I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!!” wrote Davis in all caps on Instagram.
Johnson missed much of the 2024 season due to injury, getting hurt in their season opener against the Minnesota Golden Gophers after getting hit by two Minnesota defenders from two different directions, sustaining a leg injury. This will be his first start since that injury, and he will be seeking to redeem himself after getting hurt.
As for Adrienne Davis, she is an influencer who regularly posts about her daily life, from her travels to the dresses that she wears, often showing off her sponsorships from various lifestyle brands. She has over 148,000 followers on Instagram, and she also often posts about her boyfriend, especially when he was still injured, as the two finally had more time to spend with one another.

North Carolina DL D’Antre Robinson Has High Expectations For Returning Max Johnson
With North Carolina’s old QB1 finally getting his first start after getting injured, there is plenty of hype, especially as Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels have been struggling so far this season. One teammate in particular, defensive lineman D’Antre Robinson, believes that the senior quarterback will finally be breaking out during this game.
“I expect for Max to have probably a breakout game,” he told reporters on Thursday. “He’s been a very good leader for us on the field. He’s been talking a lot more, talking to the whole team. He’s been giving a lot of motivation for the team, so I hope he goes out there and has a big game for us.”
Johnson has been bouncing around the NCAA, playing for LSU and Texas A&M before finally landing at Chapel Hill to play for North Carolina. Before his injury, he has completed 60.5% of his passes for 5,923 yards and had 47 touchdowns.
