Is Billy Edwards Playing Today? Latest Injury Update and Game Status for Wisconsin QB

Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards has not had the season he was hoping for after transferring from Maryland in the offseason. Following a breakout season with the Terrapins last year, Edwards transferred to the Badgers, hoping for a big season. Unfortunately for the transfer QB, he suffered a sprained knee in the season opener against Miami (Ohio).

Edwards was able to return for the team in Week 4 against his former team, the Maryland Terrapins. However, he left the game early on and was unable to return. He only completed one of three passing attempts for 45 yards before leaving the game.

There was hope that after a bye last week, Edwards would be able to play against No. 20-ranked Michigan on Saturday. However, according to a report from ESPN, Edwards will be unable to play in the game. He traveled with the team, but he will not start for the Badgers.

“Wisconsin will be without starting QB Billy Edwards Jr. today against Michigan, per sources. They’ll also be without starting center Jake Renfro, per sources. It’ll be Danny O’Neil’s third start,” Pete Thamel reported.

Danny O’Neill Will Start for Wisconsin in the Absence of Billy Edwards

As was reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, with Billy Edwards out, sophomore quarterback Danny O’Neil will start for the Badgers against No. 20-ranked Michigan. He has appeared in all four games for the Badgers, starting two of them. He has struggled this season, completing 60 of 85 passing attempts for 640 yards and five TDs. He has also thrown five interceptions, which has been a big issue for the Badgers.

Wisconsin picked up wins in the first two weeks of the season, but has now dropped back-to-back games to No. 10-ranked Alabama and Maryland. Conversely, Michigan is off to a much better start this year after struggling last season. While they lost in Week 2 to No. 5-ranked Oklahoma, they have bounced back well, picking up wins over Central Michigan and Nebraska.

The Wolverines’ schedule does not look overly challenging, as they only face one other ranked opponent, No. 1-ranked Ohio State, this season.
