Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel played well against the Atlanta Falcons, catching all six targets for 72 receiving yards, resulting in one touchdown. However, he may be missing Week 5 as he has suffered an injury.
Samuel reportedly missed two straight practice days on Wednesday and Thursday, and this is providing a grim outlook for the injury-plagued Washington Commanders. He was spotted on the field, but did not participate in practice at all.
Fellow wide receivers Noah Brown and Terry McLaurin are slated to miss Week 5, with Brown being out with a groin and knee injury, while McLaurin is out with a quadricep injury. This means that without Samuel, arguably Washington’s best wide receiver right now, the Commanders’ wide receiver room is running out of options.
With many of its wide receivers already banged up, the Commanders could not afford to lose Samuel, especially as they are traveling to LA to take on the Chargers. Their opponents are eager to shake off that loss against the New York Giants last week and the visiting Commanders may just be the prime target to try and win against at home.
What Happened to Deebo Samuel?
Reports indicated that Deebo Samuel Sr. injured his knee during that game against the Atlanta Falcons, though his exact injury has not yet been officially disclosed. The extent of his heel injury has also not been disclosed, so it is still not known how serious it really is.
Is Deebo Samuel Playing Week 5?
For now, it is still unknown if Samuel will actually be playing against the Chargers on Week 5, though it is likely that the Commanders would play it safe and rest their star wide receiver up as to not make his injury worse. His status for the game has not yet been listed, which means that it is still not known if he will be playing or not. It should be noted, however, that he might still be returning to the field this week, despite missing practice.
Deebo Samuel Fantasy Outlook
With his status still not clear ahead of the Week 5 showdown against the LA Chargers, Fantasy managers should apply a wait-and-see approach before deciding to sit or start Deebo Samuel.
With their undermanned wide receiver room, however, the Commanders have signed Robbie Chosen to fill in for some of the injured players. Still, losing Samuel would be a big blow, even if quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to return from his knee injury this week.
