After being placed on the injured reserve earlier this week, New York Jets running back Braelon Allen is in for a long recovery. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn shared that Allen will be out for 8-to-12 weeks during his press conference on Friday.
During this recovery period, either Allen will undergo surgery or just rehab from injury but either way the timeline to come out of MCL sprain, which he suffered during Monday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins, remain the same.
The injury happened during a kickoff return in the second quarter of the Jets’ 27–21 defeat. Due to MCL sprain in his left knee, he was forced to exit the game. After further evaluations it will be decided whether doing surgery is the right way to go.
Braelon Allen’s injury has left a massive hole in the backfield. The Jets have addressed the issue by signing veteran running back and returner Khalil Herbert. Moreover, younger backs like Isaiah Davis will see an increase in workload. Kene Nwangwu is another return option but he’s dealing with a hamstring issue.
This season so far, Allen has rushed for 76 yards with a score. He has also caught two passes for 17 yards. Last season, Allen played 17 games, amassing 334 yards rushing with two TDs while also having 148 passing yards with a touchdown.
Jets’ Braelon Allen Wants Second Opinion On His Left Knee
Just a day ago, Braelon Allen was said to be seeking second opinion on his knee injury, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. While talking about his injury on Wednesday, Glenn called it “pretty serious” and revealed that the running back will get a second opinion on future course of actions.
“He’s going to get a second opinion, so we’re still going through exactly how we’re going to designate that,” Glenn said Wednesday. “So you guys give me a little time with that so we can try to figure that out. But as you guys know, a pretty serious knee injury. So we’ll see exactly where he’s going be when it comes to designating if he’s going to be on IR or not.”
In the wake of injury, quarterback Justin Fields is praying for fast recovery. It remains to be seen if Allen returns this season at all.
